Fun Fun Fun Fest is great for a number of reasons. The shade, the usually dry weather, the actually decent and affordable food there. But I think the best thing about the Fest is discovering band like Royal Bangs. I do know that they are getting some hype, but it twas another Ganglians experience A.K.A. hearing on song I did not like by them and writing the whole band off. That’s why the show was such a surprise. Angular guitars, keyboard at just the right time, and band members who where actually into the performance, it was a little like Les Savy Fav Jr., but with less insanity/randomness and shirtless nudity. Still, the band got the crowd moving and dancing, which is more than can be said of most of the bands who played the Orange Stage (no offense to them). It wasn’t the most original sound in the world, but it still was a good way to start the Fest.
