Elephant 6 Announce Holiday Surprise Tour!

(photo via You Ain't No Picasso)

On the heels of finding out that Jeff Mangum was performing music for the luckiest 75 people ever, my jaw hit the floor today on discovering that the Elephant 6 Collective will be planning another Holiday Surprise tour next year! To take place in February and March, (apparently "Holiday" in Elephant 6 world is a year round thing), the tour will have slightly different cast this time, most noticeably missing Robert Schneider of Apples in Stereo, members of Music Tapes, Nana Grizol, Olivia Tremor Control, The Gerbils, Elf Power, Pipes You See, Pipes You Don't, Circulatory System, Major Organ and The Adding Machine, and yes, Neutral Milk Hotel will be showing up this time. No confirmation of Jeff Mangum, but it has been confirmed that Neutral Milk Hotel music will be played which is still a great sign. Their tour back in 2008 was legendary and were else can see "The Opera House", "Glue", and "Majesty" all in the same show?! Without a doubt something you will regret not seeing for the rest of your life. Can't wait!

So Cow Announces United States Tour Dates...Again

(picture and video provided by the white lodge and The Great Pumpkin respectively)

So Cow, oh So Cow. For so long I ignored you, thought you were a hyped garage band sounding like, but no where as good as, Nobunny. Then when I finally decided to give you the time of day and listen to your debut, oh how was my mind made happy with your fuzzed out and catchy garage tunes. And how I discovered your kick ass covers of other bands, and all the times you had played in the States, and I had missed you. Now you are back in the States and Canada too, touring with Ted Leo and The Thermals, barley missing Texas, but I'm OK with that because other people deserve to see you too. And I'm sure their nights will be made happy from your famously great performances. So go So Cow and entertain the masses. GO!

For examples of the wonder of So Cow, please check out the following media:

Fucked Up Touring With Against Me, Cloud Nothings?

This blog has gone long enough without any tour news, so who better to bring it back than a the current kings of the live show, Fucked Up. Of course, the band is almost always touring, but that's not any less of a reason to care. The band will be coming to both Europe and the United States this Friday, and will be bringing along everyone's least favorite major label punk band Against Me on the majority of their European tour dates. The biggest surprise though is that lo-fi rockers Cloud Nothings will be opening for the band on four of their East coast tour dates. Congrats to Dylan and his friends for making it this far in a year. A date with The Coathangers and another with Public Enemy(!) will also be happening as well. Do I even need to explain why you should do whatever is in your power to get to a show?

In other Fucked Up news, the band will be releasing their next zodiac 12 inch single "Year Of The Ox" on September 28 with Merge Records. The 13 minute epic guest stars Zola Jesus leader Nika Roza Danilova as well as a Toronto string quartet. Its B-Side "Solomon's Song" is also inspired by and at tribute to Twilight. Yes, the vampire movie. The weirdness of it all can be heard here, at the ever wonderful/annoy Pitchfork.

New Superchunk 7 Inch, Tour Dates

All though I didn't cover it like I wanted to, I am more than excited about Superchunk's Majesty Shredding when it comes out this year on September 14. In the mean time, Superchunk has released the first single off that album (if you don't count last year's "Crossed Wires" 7 inch), "Digging for Something" which emulates all the greatness of both their past albums and what was showcased on their last two releases as well. In normal words, it sounds like another really, really catchy Superchunk song. No download is up, but a nice stream of the song can be heard over at Stereogum. The limited addition, numbered, and colored 7 inch will be released on July 13 b/w "February Punk". Also in more good Superchunk news, the band has added a few more tour dates as well for this year. Fingers crossed this snowballs into a full on tour.

Tour Dates:
6/19 Denver, CO – Westword Music Festival
6/20 Chicago, IL – Taste of Randolph Street Festival
7/24 Omaha, NE – MAHA Music Festival
9/17 Washington, DC- 930 Club

Nobunny Announces Live Album, Massive Tour With The Spits

After remaining in hibernation for so long, Nobunny has finally sprung to live with a few tidbits of what's to come from his bizarre, warped, and garage obsessed brain. First off was the news that Nobunny will be playing a set at the Third Man Records store on May 21. The reason this is big news is because not only will it be "semi-acoustic" (and anyone who was able to get a copy of Raw Romantic knows this isn't a bad thing), but it will be recorded and released on vinyl by Third Man Records too. His second full length LP Ono is rumored to becoming out later this year on Goner Records as well.

This will be on the heels of another gigantic two and half month long Nobunny tour across the US and Canada, sharing most of the tour dates with fellow lo-fi garage-punks The Spits. Nobunny's shows have become legendary in their own right, so you have absolutely no excuse to not see catch him.

Teen Beat Anniversary Tour Announced with a Reunited Unrest!

Add this to the growing list of great band reunions. In honer of of Teen Beat Record's 26th anniversary, Mark Robinson has announced a six part series of concerts in honer of the event. Various and different Teen Beat bands will be playing each show, mostly ones that have been broken up for years, chief among them is Robinson's own Unrest who will be playing every show. For those who don't know (a truly need to catch up), Unrest were a premiere indie rock band from the '80s and early '90s, who released some of the best '90s style lo-fi pop albums ever like Imperial F.F.R.R. and Perfect Teeth. They broke up right before getting a big break from the rising lo-fi movement of the '90s and never gotten the attention they deserved. Thus the reason that even this reunion is still such low key. If you can at all, I would recommend to do what ever you can to make it to these shows, because the last time Unrest got back together was 5 years ago for a one off show.

Since the release of the incredibly gooey, dancy, '80s style, and just plane great "Round and Round", Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti's movements have been at a constant surveillance, with people dying to know what he would do next. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart to Tour, Release New Single

I like The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. They craft really sweet, really good nosiy indie-pop and they manage to do it right. Their show with Cymbals Eat Guitars and Depreciation Guild this past September was a pretty great one at that. So, it's nice after not hearing from them in a while to get news like this. The band will be going on a summer tour this June, with who else but Sufer Blood as well as Hooray for Earth. And while they are not coming anywhere near Texas, I am sure they will be definitly shows to catch in the hot summer. To go along with it, they are also release a brand- spanking new 7-inch titled "Say No to Love" b/w "Lost Saint" on Slumberland June 08. It will be on green vinyl (yea!) and apparently is slightly more hi-fi. Fingers crossed that is not a bad thing. That's the cover art above, with tour dates below:

News: Julian Koster (the Music Tapes) to Do Another Caroling Tour

This year is ending on a some very sour notes, so who better to brighten the holiday times than the champion of singing saws, Julian Koster. After a great tour earlier this year and releasing the “Song for the Planet Pluto” video, Julian is giving us one last treat this year. Through out December, Julian Koster, along with his fellow carolers, will travel from city to city, preforming holiday and Music Tapes songs right at your houses. He will also be setting up group showings in the towns for anyone who can’t host the carolers themselves. All you need to do to have him come over to your house or see him at a group show will be to email him at musictapescaroling@gmail.com

Go to http://www.orbitinghumancircus.com/ for more information about the event. A letter as well can be sent to the "Caroling Ambassador" at 450 N. Harris St. Athens, GA 30601. Be sure to include a phone number or email address to receive the information about the about the event, whether you can host the carolers and let them sleep in your house, and be sure to send it ASAP so they can get it in time. The dates are not final, but likely the only places they visit. However, it is believed if enough people from a certain city/state ask and can host for the carolers, they might be able to come. Any changes in dates will of course be reported on.

(Proposed) Caroling Dates:

December 7th,8th,9th-Georgia, Tennessee, Indiana, Lower Half of Illinois
December 10th,11th,12th-Chicago, Illinois, Michigan
December 13th,14th,15th-Ohio, Pittsburgh, Western New York,
December 16th,17th,18th-Upstate New York, New England (Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, etc...)
December 19th,20th,21th-Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore, D.C., Chapel Hill

And to get in the mood for Holiday cheer...

Nana Grizol News/Song/Tour!

Nana Grizol are the latest Elephant 6 members and a growing every day. After getting their debut Love It, Love It (and loving it) and seeing them open for the Music Tapes, I've patiently waited for new on their new album. Now news has been announced about it, albeit a bit unofficially. According to Impose, the band will release their second album titled Ruth in January 2010. In the mean time, they have posted a brand new song by Nana Grizol called "For Things That Haven't Come Yet", but a majority of Nana fans will know it as "Ginsburg". Still it is nice to have a studio version of this very horn-based and "Everything You Ever Hoped Or Worked for" style song. The band has also announced a November tour where I get they will play quite a few brand new songs.

Titus Andronicus Myspace

The So So Glos Myspace

Note: It has come to my attention that former band member Andrew Cedermark is making music. Very different from the Titus Andronicus stuff but still very good. It can be heard here.
